Big Blue is a collector nickname, not a catalogue name, and this Planet Ocean earns it in the first second of handling. The case and the bezel are one piece of full blue ceramic, with no steel ring, no steel flank and no polished lug edge breaking the colour anywhere on the watch. On every other Planet Ocean in this collection the colour arrives as an insert dropped into a metal case; here the colour is the case. That single construction decision is what the nickname is really about, and it is why this big blue ceramic GMT superclone looks like nothing else on a shelf of divers — the reference, 215.92.46.22.03.001, tells you far less about it than the material does.
45.5mm is the number that decides this watch for most buyers. It is a large diameter by any measure, and ceramic does nothing to hide it: the colour runs edge to edge, so the eye reads the full width of the case instead of stopping at a bezel seam the way it does on a steel diver. If you have worn a 42mm or 43.5mm steel Planet Ocean and found it fair, this one will still feel like a step up, because there is no brushed steel flank to visually narrow the profile.
The one-piece construction has a practical side that gets less attention than the look. A steel diver with a ceramic bezel insert carries two materials that age at different rates — the steel collects hairlines along the lug tops and the bezel edge while the insert stays glossy, and after a year of wear the mismatch is visible. There is nothing here to mismatch. Ceramic does not take the fine scratches steel picks up from desk edges and door frames, and because case and bezel are the same material in the same colour, the watch wears in evenly rather than in patches.
Underneath the colour this is still a 600-metre dive watch, built to that depth rating rather than styled to look like it. The dial is blue, the strap is blue rubber, and that is where the design runs into its own problem: with a blue case, a blue bezel, a blue dial and a blue strap, a watch this size risks collapsing into one undifferentiated field of colour that tells you nothing at a glance.
Orange is the only thing keeping this dial readable, and three elements carry it. The GMT hand is an orange arrow, so the second time zone is identified by colour and by shape at once and never gets confused with the hour hand. The minute track is printed in orange, which keeps the outer scale sitting on top of the blue dial instead of sinking into it. The numerals are orange as well, and they give the hands fixed points to be read against on a field that is otherwise one tone from edge to edge.
The strap carries it too. The blue rubber is lined in orange on the inside, and the lining shows along the edges as the strap curves around the wrist, so the accent runs off the dial and onto the arm.
The second time zone itself comes from the genuine Cal. 8906 GMT. The movement in our build is a clone from the VS8900 family, assembled by VSF, and it winds to a 48-hour reserve.
If 45.5mm of solid ceramic is more watch than your wrist wants, the same complication exists in a far more wearable form: the 42mm steel GMT with the blue ceramic bezel keeps the second time zone and the blue, on a steel bracelet. Both belong to the wider Omega Seamaster collection, but the Big Blue is the one people reach for first, and the only one whose case material you can name from across a room.
